His father, Finis Irving Parfitt, died at the early age of 28 from pneumonia in Jefferson County, Illinois when Survetus was 3 years of age. His mother then married William Truman Moger on November 22, 1876. Moger died March 31, 1877. Sarah Louisa married James Bell Flood on October 15, 1885 and they were married for 47 years.
Survetus married Nellie Ashby, daughter of John W. and Harriet (Warner) Ashby on August 6, 1893 in Jefferson County. Survetus and Nellie had 6 children:
