Clois D. Stone of Gatesville died May 12 at a Waco hospital. He was 91.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Restland Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Miller officiating. Memorial services will follow the graveside service at 1 1 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Stone was born Sept. 17, 1911, in the Blevins community of Falls County near Eddy. He was the son of the late Charley D. and Leila May Bowers Stone. He was raised and attended schools in the Blevins and Eddy communities, graduating from Bruceville-Eddy High School.
He married Edith Peters on Sept. 19, 1942, in Belton.
He was an executive director for ASCS (now the FSA) in Falls, Galveston, Bastrop, Bell and Coryell counties for 44 years, retiring in January 1979.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Gatesville Lions Club, a former member of the Coryell County Chamber of Commerce and the Gatesville Riding Club. He was a former director of the Coryell Museum and Historical Center.
He was once awarded the "championship hog caller's award" for Central Texas.
He was also a member of the Draft Horse and Mule Association and the Early Day Tractor and Engine Association in Temple.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles A. Stone of Fredericksburg, and a sister, Geneva Stone Marshall of Kingsville.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Stone of Gatesville; son, Dr. Paul Stone of St. Paul, MN; and sisters, Edna Stone Hayman of Houston and Lena Stone Criswell of Albuquerque, NM.
The family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Coryell Museum and Historical Center.
