Gary Lee Allen, 55, of Henning, formerly of Dyersburg, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Lauderdale.

He was born May 20, 1954 to the late Grady Lee Allen and the late Dorothy Stephens Allen. He was the grandson of the late Arthur Lee and Neva Carver Allen and the late Willie and Esther Brasfield Stephens.

He was a convenience store owner and operator. He was known for his generosity to his employees, family, friends and community.

He enjoyed history and was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy honoring his great great-grandfather, Joseph F. Poole.

He enjoyed old movies, museums and spending time with his loved ones. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy Kerley Allen of Henning; a son, Kristopher Allen of Halls; and a grandchild, Kennedy Blackwood, who loved spending time with his Pe-Paw. He is also survived by four sisters, June Dunahoo (Billy) of Newbern, Carol Strong (Larry) of Tallahassee, Fla., Wanda Davis (John) and Charlotte Newhouse of Dyersburg; two brothers, Jimmy Allen (Rita) of Dyersburg and Jerry Allen (Judy) of Collierville; several nieces and nephews, Keith Allen (Kelly), Kim Cathey (Larry), Joy Craft (Scott), Jeff Allen, Heather Trumble and Lauren Newhouse; and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at Garner Funeral home Dec. 21 at 5-8 p.m.

Services were at 2 p.m. Dec. 22 at Garner Funeral Home. Burial was in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Henning.

Pallbearers were Rickie Kerley, Bubba Vanstory, Jeff Allen, Steve Dew, Steven Dew and Kenny Nelson.

Memorials may be sent to the Humane Society or Salem Baptist Church.
