Man killed in accident
David Sharp Jr., 53, of 1620 Osage Ave., was pronounced dead on arrival at Avenal District Hospital following a 12:30 p.m. accident Thursday, at Avenal Cutoff Road and Lassen Avenue. His son, Larry David Sharp, 29, of Hanford, was given emergency treatment at the same hospital before being transferred to Valley Medical Center where he is listed in poor condition with massive head injuries.
California Highway Patrol reported the younger Sharp was driving the foreign subcompact station wagon southbound on Avenal Cutoff when he failed to make a stop at Lassen Avenue, went across the intersection and hit an embankment. The men reportedly had been on a fishing trip.

Graveside services for David Sharp Jr., 53, a Corcoran resident of 17 years were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Corcoran District Cemetery.
Sharp was killed in a traffic accident Thursday. He was a native of Gatesville, Texas.
He was a former employee of Wheat Farms of Corcoran. Sharp was a veteran of World War II, serving with the army in the European campaign.
Sharp is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; four sons, Jerry, Calvin and Doyle of Corcoran and Larry of Hanford; two daughters, Jo Ann Sharp of Corcoran and Mary Elkins of Santa Ana; three brothers, Thomas and Robert of Texas and Alvin of Barstow; five sisters, Wanda Pollard of Tulare, Mozell Hendrix, Bessie Wood, Pauline Griffin and Sarah Whitefield of Texas and three grandchildren.
