William Giles was the Town Marshal in Winslow, Arizona. He served just one year for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 43. Marshal Giles was attempting to quell an argument in a local Saloon between a Patron and a Roulette Operator. The Patron threatened the Roulette Operator with a gun. When Marshal Giles told the man to put the gun away, the man shot him four times. Marshal Giles returned fire, but missed the suspect. The suspect later turned himself in. The suspect was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years in Prison. Marshal Giles was survived by his mother, two brothers, and four sisters.
