"JAMES NYE (John, John, Ebenezer, John, Benjamin), born at Sandwich, Mass.,
January 31, 1780. He married, at Lee, Mass., January 23, 1801, Thankful,
daughter of Thomas and Mercy Hamblin Crocker She was born at Lee, and died at
DeRuyter, N. Y., January 25, 1844. In March 1807, they moved to Madison County,
N.Y., and bought a large tract of land on which the village of DeRuyter is now
located. In 1818 and again in 1825 he represented the county in the State
Legislature. He died February 25, 1845."
