dAudrey Mae Brooks, 89, a 9-year resident of Quarryville, Pa., and previously of the Sylvan Shores Community in Riva, died Dec. 22, 2009 at the Fairmount Homes Retirement Community in Ephrata, Pa., of dementia after a 6-year illness.

She was born Aug. 2, 1920, in Raleigh, N.C., to the late Charles and Ida Thornton Moore.

She was employed by the Maryland Department of Legislative Services as a Legislative Information Specialist IV, retiring in July of 1982. She was a member of the Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church in Quarryville, Pa. and the 1st Baptist Church of Edgewater in Edgewater, Md.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin D. Brooks, whom she married March 30, 1940 and who died Dec. 19, 2000; and her daughter, Linda L. McCumber.

She is survived by her children, Barbara J. Green of Quarryville, Pa., and Patricia L. Young of Niceville, Fla.; siblings, Joseph Moore of Boiling Springs Lake, N.C., Evelyn Schwallenberg of Roanoke, Va., and Charles Moore of Watsontown, Pa.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to Audrey's Life Celebration Monday, Dec. 28 from 12 p.m. until time of service begins at 1 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
