CLARION (PA) DEMOCRAT, Sept. 30, 1886

Although it was not unexpectedly or without surprise that our citizens learned of the death of Amos W. Corbett on last Tuesday morning, the sorrow and conviction that one of our best and most useful citizens had gone from our midst was none the less heartfelt or universal. One month ago deceased returned to his home from a visit to Foxburg, complaining of severe neuralgic pains in his limbs and body, and, notwithstanding the best efforts of medical skill to battle the disease, he continued to grow gradually worse, his ailment developing into organic heart disease, the immediate cause of his death, which occurred a few minutes before five o'clock on Tuesday morning. Amos W. Corbett was born in Clarion township, this county, in November, 1823, being a little less than sixty three years of age when the summons to cease his earthly pilgrimage came. In the sustaining of the ministry he was ever a large and willing giver and was one of the most generous contributors toward the establishment of the First Baptist church of this place. In politics he was a Republican and although never an aspirant for party preferment was the unanimous choice of that party at its last primary election as its candidate for the State Legislature. Having amassed considerable wealth he had retired from the business activities of life with every prospect of being spared to enjoy his declining years in quiet among those with whom he had labored and loved, when the summons came and he was called to enjoy the rewards of a well spent life in a brighter world above. He leaves to mourn his sore bereavement a widow, three sons and two daughters, the latter being Messrs. L.G., C. F. and A.W. Corbett, Jr., and Mrs. Dr. A.M. Reid, of this place, and Mrs, J.S. Albright of Clarion township. To them, he was ever a fond and indulgent husband and father and to all our citizens a kind and honored friend.
