Wesley Eugene "Gene" Compere, Jr., M.D., was called to heavenly home on December 15, 2009 from his earthly home in La Mesa, California.

Dr. Compere was born in Shreveport, LA,. on December 19, 1925, and at the age of six, his family moved to Los Angeles. He graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1942. After serving in the Navy, he received his B.A. from the University of Southern California in 1947 and his M.D. in 1950, specializing in otolaryngology. He was then called to serve in the Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed in Japan.

Dr. Compere beganhis private practice in Los Angeles in 1954, moving to the San Diego area in 1961. He was highly respected, not only as a practicing physician but also as an author, teache4r and speaker. Foremost, he was a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and was active for over 40 years as a member of College Avenue Baptist Church in San Diego, serving as a Sunday school teacher and class president.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane Pixley Compere, his son Bob and wife Karen, daughter Cathie, son Bill and wife Janie and grandchildren Ryan and wife Shannon, and Leeanne. He was preceded in death by his daughter Francie, grandaughter Susanna, and sister May Humphreys.

A graveside service was held at Mission Burial Park South, San Antonio, Texas.
