Joseph W. Christel, 88, of St. Nazianz, died Saturday at the Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc following a lingering illness.Born Nov. 2, 1879 in the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, He was the son of the late Richard and Mary Stahl Christel. He attended St. Gregory's School.
On March 19, 1908, he married the former Annie Damstorf. His wife died in 1953. Mr. Christel operated a farm and a saw mill, and was a thresher in the St. Nazianz area for many years. He was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Almyra) Rehme of St. Nazianz; two grandchildren and two brothers, Edward Christel of Kiel and Henry of New Holstein.
Ten brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
A requiem Mass will be offered at 10 a. m. Wednesday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, St. Nazianz, following brief family rites at 9:45 a. m. at the Christianson Funeral
