He was one of the first landowners in old Greer Texas that is now called Hess, Jackson County, Oklahoma.
Greer, Texas has records that show he branded his cattle for the long trail.
After land ownership in Hess community, Robert acquired land and other business properties in nearby town of Tipton, Oklahoma. Bob Carlile began the Tipton Bank and loaned money to many business people to help them start their own business.
The town of Tipton grew from grassroots, largely assisted through the efforts of Bob Carlile, the Father of Tipton.
