HICKORY, N.C. Kate Swift Sweezy, 74, of Hickory, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.

Born June 24, 1934, in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Ada Warren and Butler Swift.

Mrs. Sweezy was a member of Highland United Methodist Church and had retired from North Hickory Furniture Company. She was a graduate of Bethel High School in Sugar Grove, NC in 1952 and Steed Business School in Johnson City, TN.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul and Willis Swift; and a sister Emogene Greene.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred Earl Sweezy of the home; a son, Gary Sweezy and wife Caroline of Raleigh; a daughter, Cindy Williard and husband Hunter of Winston-Salem, NC; a grandson, Jacob Williard of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Beth Williard of Winston Salem, NC; three brothers: Jim and Ray Swift, both of Telford, TN, Clay Swift of Elizabethton, TN; a sister, Frances McDaniel Epperly of Salem, VA.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Riley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
