Rodney Maxson, Winterset

Rodney Maxson, 89, of Winterset died from complications associated with digestive problems Oct. 4, 2000 at his home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 7 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with the Rev. Jim Chamberlin officiating. Burial was at North McDonald Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Madison County. Military rites were performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.

Rodney Maxson was born March 13, 1911, in Knoxville to Elmer and Cora (Schroeder) Maxson. His marriage to Waunita McVey took place Jan. 17, 1941 in Newton. Having resided in Des Moines for most of his married life, he worked at Betts Cadillac for 25 years, retiring in 1972. In 1974, he moved to the Winterset/Earlham area. Rodney was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Des Moines Legion Post and D.A.V.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Shirley Norris of Des Moines, Geneva Hawthorne-Helm (husband Richard) of Van Meter and Judy Carney (husband Joseph) of Winterset; a son, Michael Maxson (wife Connie) of Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Southtown Baptist Church in Des Moines.
