---Juanita Barrett, age 73, of LaPlata, Missouri, passed away on Monday (August 10, 1998) at the LaPlata Nursing Home.
---Born on June 26, 1925, in rural Kirksville, Missouri, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Maude Wood. In 1946, she married Russell Barrett, who preceded her in death on August 17, 1986.
---Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Lavern Wood and Cecil Wood and one infant daughter.
---Survivors include one son, Charles Barrett of Kirksville, Missouri; two daughters, Brenda Smith of LaPlata, Missouri and Cathy Shorten of Macon, Missouri; two grandchildren, Eric Pinkston and Stachia Vorhees; one great-grandson, Dyla Vorhees; two sisters, May Perkins of LaPlata, Missouri and Jessie Wood of LaPlata, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
---Juanita lived most of her life in LaPlata, Missouri, where she was a 1943 graduate of LaPlata High School. During her lifetime, she owned and operated two restaurants in LaPlata and the Colonial Restaurant in Macon, Missouri.
---Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (August 13, 1998) at the Travis Funeral Chapel, LaPlata, Missouri, with the Reverend James Morgan officiating. Music will be provided by Janis Mitten, organist. A taped musical selection will be "Wind Beneath My Wings."
---Burial will be in the LaPlata Cemetery, La Plata, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Romaine Turner, Duane Turner, Bruce Pinkston, Marty Roberts, Linden Wood and Steve Shorten.
---Visitation will be held on Wednesday (August 12, 1998) from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
---The family requests that memorials in memory of Juanita Barrett be made to the LaPlata Nursing Home. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 South Church Street, La Plata, Missouri 63549.

Juanita Wood married her second husband, Loren Eldon Jenkins, on October 30, 1972. They were divorced.
