They moved back to Urbana, Missouri, and had seven children. They moved to Hickory County, Missouri, in 1938, to the farm Joe had grown up on. He worked in the timber there, and had his sawmill set up on the farm by Pippin Branch. He also threshed wheat for the farmers in the area.
He was a member of the Urbana Christian Church, and was baptized in his later years.
Joe loved music, played the fiddle, and knew all the songs by heart. He enjoyed visiting with people.
He was survived by his wife, Ada; 2 sons; Ozbun Pippin of Urbana, Missouri; James Oscar Pippin of Kansas City, Missouri; 6 daughters: Mrs Mamie Bybee of Kansas City, Missouri; Dorothy German of Buena Vista, Colorado; Mrs. Ada Jo Edde of Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Helen Yoss of Novata, California; Mrs. Eva Flowers of Climax, Colorado; Mrs. Georgetta Lear of Lincoln, Missouri; 3 sisters: Mrs. Julia Atchley of Graff, Missouri; Mrs. Mary Erickson of Preston, Missouri; Mrs. Eliza Wells of Preston, Missouri; 2 brothers: Mr. James Pippin, of Preston, Missouri; Mr. John Pippin of Branch, Missouri; 14 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 18, 1951, at 2:00 p.m. at the Urbana Christian Church with Rev. Earl Sechler officiating with burial in Bowers Chapel Cemetery under direction of the Vaughan-Reser Funeral Home of Urbana.
