Byron Leonard Stanton served as a Private 1st Class in Company B, 116th U.S. Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, United States Army during World War II.

He was a son of Byron L. Stanton and Ruth L. (Yost) Stanton.

He was killed in action in the Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

He was originally from Shamokin, Pennsylvania.

He was interred in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on December 17, 1947.

MISSING IN FRANCE

Byron L. Stanton, son of Mrs. Ruth L. Lanker, 144 North Fourth St., has been missing in action in France since June 6, according to a telegram sent by the War Department to the soldier's mother. He has been in the Army since February, 1942, and in civilian life was employed by the Bowers Battery Company. The missing infantryman has three brothers in the service: Private First Class William Stanton, in Alaska; Curtis Stanton, in the U.S. Navy, in the Pacific, and George Stanton, in the U.S. Navy, in the Atlantic. A brother, Donald, and two sisters, Catherene and Lillian, are at home, as well as two half-sisters, Ruth and Natalie Lanker.
