She was also preceded in death by an older brother Leonard Armbruster of Bullhead City, Arizona. After the death of her husband, Florence moved to Peoria to be closer to family

Her parents moved to Dwight, Illinois to tenant farm for the Scully family before achieving the dream of a farm of their own. She was valedictorian of her grade school class at Vicery School and later graduated from Dwight High School. After graduation she worked as a secretary for a car dealership in Morris, Illinois before attending beauty school. Florence was an avid dancer and with a large circle of friends made a habit of attending dances in Streator, Sunbury and Dwight each Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, occasionally making the trip to the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Her dancing days were over when she came under the notice of Frank J. Barr of Mazon. They were married on September 22, 1941 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dwight, Illinois. After a wedding breakfast they started their honeymoon drive to Colorado. Frank was a lifelong farmer and they raised their family in the country home where he was born. Florence and Frank were the proud parents of two children: Barbara (James T.) Pearce of Dover, Delaware, and James J. (Carole L. nee Wrubleski) of Peoria. Her loving heart embraced her children's spouses as her own.

Services were entrusted to Wright and Salmon Mortuary of Peoria, Illinois.
