SHANNON - James Edward Kelly, 72, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born on July 29, 1937, in Chickasaw County to William Floyd Kelly and Virgie Ella Rimmer Kelly. He was a Pentecostal and attended Tupelo Bible College. He moved to Shannon in the early 1960's, where he was the owner and operator of Kelly's Rentals, Sales and Supplies. Being a farmer, he loved all farm animals and owned many miniature horses and game chickens.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Sammy Raper officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park in Verona.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Kathleen Kelly of Shannon; two sons, James William Kelly (Carol) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Jonathan Kelly of Shannon; one daughter, Amy Michelle Kelly Carter of Houston; two stepdaughters, Debbie Kelly of Tupelo and Ellen Gates of Corinth; eight grandchildren, Brandy, Amber, Gabriella, Isabella, Brittney, Devin, Joshua and McKenzie; two sisters, Bobbie Hall of Okolona and Holly Curtis of Nettleton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jamie; two daughters, Jennifer Kelly Martin and Anna Maria Kelly; one brother, William Kelly; and two sisters, Barbara Martin and Elizabeth Barnett.

Pallbearers will be his sons, grandsons, nephews and great-nephew.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Holland Funeral Directors in Okolona.
