Charles W. Kane, 67, of 44 West Midland Avenue, died Saturday, March 11, 1972, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born Jan. 11, 1905, in Sherburne, a son of Charles and Lulu Hinckley Kane. On Jan. 10, 1932, in Smyrna, he married Maplet Dibble who survives.

Mr. Kane had worked for many years as a checker for the O&W Railroad and then for several years for the Chenango County Highway Department. He had been unable to work since 1962 because of poor health.

He served with the Third Cavalry of the Army for three years following World War 1.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Clayton (Marion) Barnes, Mrs. WIlliam (Arlene) Howard, and Miss Kathleen D. Kane, all of Norwich; Mrs. Roger (Yvonne) Jeffrey of Bainbridge and Mrs. Albert (Beverly) Ray of Plymouth; three sons, Tyrone B. Kane of Renton, Wash., Charles S. Kane of Highland Mills and Colin M. Kane of North Norwich; two aunts, Mrs. Eva Smith of Norwich and Mrs. Adele Nelson of Holmesville; 17 grandchildren and several cousins.

Funeral and committal services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Robert J. Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich. The Rev. Philip N. Pitcher, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, Norwich, officiated. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Hope cemetery, Norwich.
