Infant daughter of British banker Anthony Lefroy and his wife Elizabeth, the daughter of his partner Peter Langlois; also, aunt of Tom Lefroy, a distinguished British jurist better known for his youthful dalliance with author Jane Austen.
One of little Phoebe's surviving brothers, Anthony, grew up to become an officer in the British Army and the father of Tom Lefroy, allegedly the love of Austen's life and model for the character Mr. Darcy in "Pride and Prejudice". Another brother, George, became a parson and the Austens' neighbor in Hampshire, England. It was during Tom's stay with his Uncle George that he became acquainted with the novelist.
