A.J. Short, a career Army officer, patriot and family man, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010.
Graveside service: Private service with military honors in Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth. Visitation: There will be an open visitation from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel.
A.J. was born July 25, 1929, in Dallas to A.J. Short and Carmen Peatling Short. He entered the Army in August 1946 and retired in 1973 as the adjutant general of the Strategic Communications Command - Pacific, Hawaii. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and numerous other awards and decorations during his service.
A.J. loved his family and loved being surrounded by them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dortch and Gayle Short; and his sister, Carmen Short Riddel.
Survivors: His wife of 15 years, Patsy; his son, A.J. Short III (Jennifer); daughters, Tina Martinez (Jeff), Toni Comiskey (Mike), Tucson LaHue (Sanford), Tammy St. Clair (Mike), Tricia Andos (Mark), Teddi Baker (Ray), Traci Smith (Darrell); stepchildren, Michael B. Roberts (Jean), and Juli Gerrard (Robert); 27 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
