He had been in ill health for about a year and a half. It was not until Saturday morning, however, that his condition became serious. At that time he was seized by a sinking spell, when arising from bed, and from the effects of it he did not recover.
He was born November 24, 1861, the son of James and Sarah Keller Benedict, at Lemasters. He lived in that vicinity until thirty years ago when he moved with the family to Waynesboro, where he made his home ever since.
While living here he was employed by D. W. Hess' Sons, up until a little more than a year ago, when he was compelled to give up his employment, due to his failing health.
He was married, eighteen years ago, to Miss Jennie Shockey, Five Forks.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, having joined the church shortly after his marriage. He was a man of a high type of character, honorable and upright and was respected by all who knew him.
He is survived by his widow, these children: Keller, Rella, Lola, Albert, Sarah and Croft, all at home, and these brothers and sisters: Milton Benedict and Allison S. Benedict, South Church street, and Misses Mattie Benedict, Mary Benedict, Susan Benedict, Lucy Benedict, living with their mother on South Church street, and Mrs. W. I. Book, Philadelphia.
Funeral, Tuesday, meet at home at 10 a.m.; services in the Church of the Brethren at 10:30 conducted by Rev. F. D. Anthony, assisted by Rev. C. R. Oellig.
