Mrs. Roland Wendling, 56, a resident of the Town of Liberty, died early this morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after a lingering illness. She was a former Sheboygan area rural school teacher. The former Lillian Berg was born Jan, 25, 1908, near Valders, a daughter of the late Knute and Engelborg Berg. She attended the Liberty district school and graduated from Valders High School. She was also a graduate of Manitowoc County Teachers College. On June 19, 1939, she married Roland Wendling of Kiel at the Valders Lutheran Church. The couple resided on the present Berg homestead farm since their marriage. Mrs. Wendling taught school for 26 years at Cedar Grove, Woodland Park, Sunny Crest, Niles and Louis Corners Schools.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Oshkosh State College in 1961. She was also a former Sunday school teacher and superintendent at Valders Lutheran Church. Mrs. Wendling was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, and of the local Homemakers Club.
Surviving are her husband; three brothers, Gordon Berg of Manitowoc, Siguart Berg, Town of Liberty, and William Berg of Milwaukee; seven sisters, Mrs. Christine McGarvie, Chicago, Mrs. Ida Milne, Santa Barbara, Calif., Mrs. Fred Sampe, Manitowoc, Mrs. Orin Torrison, Mrs. Raymond Johnston, Mrs. Norman Lenz and Mrs. Elmer Dedering, all of Valders.
Funeral services will be at St. Peters United Church of Christ, Kiel. The Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the Kiel cemetery.
