The Journal, North Manchester, IN
Austin V. Rudy was born in Laketon, Ind., April 6, 1872, and died in this city at the home of his mother Sunday, July 26, 1903, at the ate of 31 years, 3 months and 20 days.
On January 23, 1902, at Marengo, Iowa, he fractured his leg by a fall on a defective sidewalk. After a long confinement in a hospital he was able in October 1902 to return to his mother's home. He so far recovered that he was able for a short time to resume his work and was employed at the Syracuse factory until Feb. 10, by which time tuberculosis of the bone developed in the knee of the fractured limb, and he has since been confined to the house.
On May 25 it was found advisable to amputate the limb. While the amputation relieved him from the intense pain from which he was suffering....most skillful attendance and careful and patient nursing ...made his last days more peaceful and pleasant, they could not save his life. Since July 16 he has been confined to his bed. Death came from a gradual exhaustion of vitality and the end was painless.
Funeral occurred Monday, July 27, from the house. Services by Rev. Lloyd Douglas and interment at Oaklawn cemetery.
