Minnie Frances King was born on Sept. 29, 1934 near Parksville, Boyle Co., Kentucky on Tennessee Ridge. She was the daughter of Ernest Herstle King (1915-1997) and Ollie Pearl "Polly" Hillard (1915-1992), both buried in the Parksville Cemetery. Minnie was the first of their seven children.

Minnie's father, Herstle, was the son of Thomas Letcher "Tom" King (1881-1973) and Minna Susan "Minnie" Gooch (1883-1971). Herstle was born in Kingtown, McCreary Co. (formally part of Whitley Co.), KY, however, his parents moved their family from Kingtown to Parksville in 1916 when he was only about a year old.

Herstle's father, Thomas, was a great-grandson of Thomas Murray "Tom" King (1790-1880) and was named after him. The elder Tom was the patriarch of the King family in McCreary Co. (then Whitley Co.), KY, having moved his family to the Marsh Creek area of lower Whitley County from Campbell Co., Tennessee about 1819. The younger Tom (Minnie's GF) was born on a nearby farm about one year after his G-GF's death.

Minnie was named after her paternal grandmother (Minna) whose nickname "Minnie" was pronounced differently (My-nee). Minna was the daughter of James Ellison Gooch (1855-1914) and Mary Ann "Polly" Williams (1854-1926). James was born in Pulaski Co., KY while Polly was born in Lincoln Co., KY. James is buried in the Lakeland Cemetery (Jefferson Co., KY). Polly is buried in the Kingtown Cemetery in McCreary Co., KY next to her second husband, John N. Faulkner (1847-1911). Polly's mother, Margaret Hail Williams (1836-1897), is also buried there as are other relatives.

Minnie's mother, Polly Hillard, was born near Parksville in Kentucky. She was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Hillard (1882-1959) and Ira Mathie Mae Hillard (1888-1929). Ben was born in/near Cardwell, Washington Co., KY, Mathie in Boyle Co., KY. They are buried in the Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, Boyle Co., KY.

About 1954, Minnie married Leslie "Les" Caldwell (1929-1998) in Parksville, KY. Les was about 25 years of age, Minnie about 20. Born in Owen Co., KY, he was the son of Everett Caldwell (1879-1946) and Maggie Lee Pike (1905-1956). Hard working, dependable and good-natured, Les proved to be a great son-in-law for Herstle King. For over two decades he and Minnie's father, Herstle, worked side-by-side on the King family farm. Les and Minnie lived just down Tennessee Ridge Road from her parents (Herstle & Polly King) and paternal grandparents (Tom & Minnie King).

Minnie was a kind and goodhearted person. She and Les were definitely caring people as they took in numerous foster children during their 21 year marriage.

Something went wrong between Minnie and Les, however, and they divorced in 1976. Minnie (41) soon married her recently divorced church preacher (Parksville Knob Baptist Church), Charles Edward Collins (1935-2015), and soon moved to Floyd Co., KY with him. Les, who was 46 at the time of their divorce, never remarried. He gave up farming and moved to Danville, KY.

According to Minnie, her 2nd marriage was not a pleasant one and was one she sincerely regretted. On Dec. 15, 1983 she was killed in a mysterious auto accident in Floyd Co., KY at the age of 49, the night before she was to return to Parksville to live with her brother, Curtis King (1935-2012), for a while. She was driving alone at the time of her death. Not long after her death the house in which they had lived mysteriously burned.

Minnie's body was returned to Boyle County for burial in the Parksville Cemetery, next to her paternal grandparents, Tom and Minna King. The inscription on her headstone reads "HE IS LORD". Years later (1992 & 1997), her parents (Herstle and Polly) were buried in front of her and her paternal grandparents (Tom & Minnie King).
