BURLINGTON, N.C. - Jerry E. "Mr. B." Baumgarner, age 74, of West Davis Street, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at his home. He was a native of Guilford County and the husband of the late Glenda "Mrs. B." Squires Baumgarner.
Jerry was a floral designer at Ausley's Florist for many years and recently was employed at Big Lots in Burlington. He was a member of The Baptist Temple. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea from 1961 until 1963 patrolling the DMZ. He was an historian of the "Old West," reading western histories and watching western movies. He recently finished writing a book on the West. Jerry and his wife also enjoyed collecting antiques during the course of their marriage.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Kelly Baumgarner of Greensboro; grandson, Adric Liam Baumgarner; brothers, Roger Ausley of Burlington and Bill Ausley of Raleigh; and uncle, Ruel Baumgarner. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents, Loy "Jack" Baumgarner and Gladys Love Baumgarner Ausley and stepfather, Sam Ausley.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2010, at 3 p.m. at The Baptist Temple by Dr. Donald R. Carter, and the burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his son, 4302 Butterfield Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27405.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Baptist Temple Building Fund, 2224 Anthony Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
