On September 21, 1942, he joined the Army and served in Normandy, northern France, the Rhineland and in Central Europe in the 568th Anti Aircraft Artillary. Following his discharge, November 27, 1945, he was employed by Gamble Robinson, Minot, for a short time before he began farming the family farm near Foxholm.
He married Mary M. Kraft October 28, 1947 at Minot, and they lived and farmed in Muskego Township until the time of his death.
Ralph and Mary had four children:
