She was born on August 20, 1910 in Georgia City, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Mack and Maude A. (Thomas) Ross.
Dorothy grew up in the Carthage community. She graduated from Carthage High School and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Carthage as well.
On August 29, 1934 she married Robert Leonard Brown in Carthage and he preceded her in death on January 19, 1978. In 1934 she and Robert moved to Aurora.
Dorothy worked as a sales clerk for the Ramsey Department Store, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Aurora Saturday Club, PEO Chapter JE and the General Federation of Women's Clubs.
Those surviving her include, one son, William Mack Brown and his wife, Linda, of Marble Falls, Texas; one grandson, First Lieutenant Justin Brown, United States Marine Corps, of Pensacola, Florida; two granddaughters, Sarah Wheeler and her husband, Danny, of Grapevine, Texas, Melissa Ross of Seattle, Washington; and two great-grandchildren, Clayton and Amanda Wheeler.
Her parents; two brothers, Leon and Robert Ross; and sister, Helen Fullerton, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010 in the First Presbyterian Church, with burial in the Fullerton Cemetery in Carthage.
