Daniel John Gates
April 9, 1943 - January 4, 2010

Beloved husband and father, Daniel "Dan" Gates passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 4th, 2010 and is survived by his wife and best friend, Kathy. A life long Coloradan, he was born to Carl and Velma Gates on April 9th, 1943, in Canon City Colorado. After graduating high school he entered the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Hancock. After completion of his tour he began employment with Western Electric as a line technician, a position he served with distinction for 30 years and retired from US West in 1999. An accomplished handyman who enjoyed building and remodeling he moved with his family to Bailey Colorado where he raised his two sons, Jeremy and Jason. Also finding enjoyment in hunting and fishing he was seldom found without a hammer, saw, or fishing pole at his side. Once having raised his sons he discovered the love of his life, Kathy, whom he married on August 21, 1999. Having previously discovered Coalby Canyon on a hunting trip to the western slope, he and his bride settled in Cedaredge and built their love nest in the trees. Following the building of several additional structures, he and Kathy enjoyed having family and guests stay on the property to find pleasure in God's country on nature trails they have made for the relaxation of all. Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Cara Cahstrom and survived by sister, Barbara Bayer and her son, Scott Bayer and daughter, April Shroer. He is survived by his sons, Jeremy and Jason and Michael Nazarenus and daughter, LeaAnne Reed. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Lacey, Dillon and Haley Gates, Skyler and Brady Nazarenus and Iverson Reed. Arrangements were made under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory. Services will be held in Dan's memory on January 8th, 2010 View the internet obituary and sign the online guest registry at taylorfuneralservice.com.
