FUNERAL OF MR. W.E. DARGAN

Laid to Rest in Grove Hill Cemetery
in Presence of a Large Number
of Friends.

Special to The State.
Darlington, April 28. --The funeral of the late Mr. Wm. Edwin Dargan took place at Grove Hill cemetery here yesterday at 12 o'clock. Owing to the fact that the remains were carried through the country to his residence and from thence on to Darlington this morning there were no church services. The services were conducted by the Rev. R.W. Lide of the Baptist church and Rev. P.B. Wells of the Methodist and were brief, solemn and impressive.

The honorary pallbearers were: Messrs. L.E. Williamson, J.C. Blackwell, W.E. James, Paul Whipple, Bright Williamson, W.F. Dargan. Active, J.H. Coker, Jas. W. Gandy, T.L. Williamson, H. Hennig, E.M. Ervin and A.E. Dargan.

Owing to the suddenness the death was a particularly sad one. There was a large attendance and the floral tributes were many and beautiful. Col. J.J. Dargan of Sumter, a brother of deceased, and Mrs. Dr. J.R. Ware of Greenville, a daughter, arrived in time for the funeral. There are eight children surviving instead of seven as stated. The name of a son, Mr. Karl Dargan, who conducts a mercantile business at Effingham, was unintentionally omitted.
Mr. Dargan's death was a great blow to this entire section and deepest sympathy goes out to the bereaved wife and children in their distress. (--obituary, The State, Columbia, SC, 29 Apr 1907)
