Dr. William I. Book, 93, a guest at Hearthstone, died at 12:05 a.m. today at the Waynesboro Hospital where he had been a patient since June 14. Dr. Book was born at Blain, Perry County, June 9, 1875, son of the late Edmund and Elizabeth (Long) Book. His early life was lived in Blain where he taught public school and started in the ministry.He was a graduate of Juniata College with the class of 1896 and received his master of elements degree from Juniata in 1898. He served as principal of the Stonerstown and Saxton public schools for several years and in 1898 was ordained as a minister of the Church of the Brethren. He was supervising principal of the Gettysburg schools from 1901 to 1909. In 1910 he received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Pennsylvanis and his doctorate in physics in 1913.
He taught in the physics department of hte University of Pennsylvania until his retirement and appointment as professor emeritus in physics in 1945. He was advanced to elder ship in the Church of the Brethren in 1945 and served on the board at Juniata Collgeg for a number of years.
His wife, Mrs. Zella Benedict Book, died in December 1962. He had made his home at Hearthstone since 1965.He was a member of the First Church of the Brethren of Philadelphia.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. S. Minerva B. Roth, Carlisle R. D. 3.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Grove Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Calvert N. Ellis and the Rev. W. Dean Crouse. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday.
