Obituary
We learn from the Old Commonwealth that on last Thursday week, Mr. Geo. W. Arey, well-known in this county, was found dead in the field near his home, a couple of miles from Rawley Springs, in Rockingham county. The commonwealth says: "The cause of death was doubtless heart disease from which he had been a suffer for many years. In the morning of Thursday he mounted his horse and rode away on business, and not returning at noon his absence was not especially noticed, as he was frequently away all day. His sons, upon returning to their work after dinner, noticed his horse inane adjoining field, with saddle on and immediately went to see what it meant, when they discovered the lifeless body of Mr. Arey, who had probably been dead some hours. He was 55 years of age, and a clever, genial gentleman."

A CARD
In the last issue of the Register I noticed a card of one 'Dr.' Harper is reply to the statement that myself and Mr. George W. Arey had been poisoned by the use of Harper's Electric Compound. In reply to the 'Dr's' lame apology that he did not know that it was the article he prepared which we both took I will simply state that that dodge has a 'crooked' look and if he would worm-fence it for a mile at the end of the mile his excuse would be just as 'crooked'. 'Dr.' H says he "did not notice whether it was gennine or not, for he had left the Compound with me to sell'. That's a pretty dodge truly, and no man but a 'crooked' one would undertake to make it.
On the evening of the 29th March 'Dr.' Harper and Wm . B. Curelman came to the store and I said to Harper that the dose had had given Mr. Arey nearly killed him, and he answered that 'it would have been a d--d good thing if it had'. A good recommendation, truly, for Harper and his Compound. We are not quite as 'Crooked'i as 'Dr.' Harper thinks we are, nor in quite as 'crooked' circumstance as to let Harper have the cash for a worthless article - a poison as it has proved to be.
When we have a cat or a dog we want killed we intend administering Dr. Harper's Electric Compound, or when the rats and mice get troublesome, we will order Harper's Cough Syrup. This is about all that they are fir for - no human ought to take either.
