He married the former Nancy Mattson on July 16, 1955 in Pelkie. Ralph served in the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was employed by the State of Michigan in the Department of Natural Resources as a Forester. He retired in 1985.
Ralph was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church, Pelkie, and the Alston VFW Post #7646. He enjoyed deer hunting, watching the Packers, gardening, making wood and being outdoors. He loved to take walks.
Ralph Turunen was survived by his loving children, James (Lenore "Sue") Turunen of L'Anse, John (Sue) Turunen of L'Anse and Robert "Bob" Turunen of Pelkie, grandchildren, Jeremy, Kris, Dan, Beth, and Matt, great-grandchild, Makayla, brother, Rueben (Evelyn) Turunen of Pelkie, sisters, Edith Moberg of Baraga, Ruth Bevier of Peoria, IL., and Beatrice (William) Prewitt of Chico, CA. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, grandson Brad Turunen, brother Reino, and sisters Martha, Aili, Eleanor, Sylvia, and Eva.
Funeral services held at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse with Pastor John Autio officiating. Interment in the Pelkie Cemetery. Baraga county area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444 conducted military honors at the funeral chapel.
