EPHRATA MAN WEDS HARRISBURG GIRL

Harrisburg, June 17 - The home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Harvey Burke, 1328 Green street (sic), was the scene of a pretty wedding at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon when their daughter, Miss Ruth Almeda Burke became the bride of Charles Landis Bitzer, of Ephrata.

The home was decorated with pink rambler roses, daisies, and spruce, and the ceremony was performed before an improvised altar of flowers, the Rev. W. E. Daugherty, pastor of the First U. B. Church, officiating.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white canton crepe with a veil of point Venise lace, and orange blossoms. She was attended by her sister, Miss Mildred R. Burke, who wore rose organdie and a picture hat of black lace, trimmed with osprey.

Ray L. Bitzer, of Philadelphia, was the best man, and the ushers were William Glessner, of Philadelphia, and William H. Cleckner, of Harrisburg.

The bride, who is well known locally, is a graduate of Central High School, and of the Teachers Training School. For several years she has been teaching in the public schools of Harrisburg. The bridegroom Is connected with the Victor Talking Machine Company at Camden. After an eastern wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Bitzer will reside at 1445 West Venango street (sic), Tioga, Philadelphia.

Bitzer, of Philadelphia; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bitzer, Mr. and Mrs. Clement Bitzer, of Ephrata; Mr. and Mrs. Donald McKenzie, of Newport; the Rev. and Mrs. Philip Nathan of New Haven; Mrs. Daniel Yertz and Miss Ruth Yertz, of Elizabethtown; Miss Carrie Runkle, of Palmyra; Miss Miriam Fager, of Columbia; Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Landis and Miss Nellie, of Bainbridge.

Charles Landis Bitzer, 85, of Riverview Manor, Harrisburg, formerly of Ephrata, died Thursday, April 6, at the Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg.

He was the son of the late Adam and Mary Landis Bitzer of Ephrata.

He was general agent of the Harrisburg office for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1938 until his retirement in 1958 and he continued as associate general agent until 1970.

He was a member of the advisory board of the Dauphin Deposit Trust Company; a former trustee of the Harrisburg Central YMCA; president of the YMCA men's club; vice president of the board of trustees of Lebanon Valley College and a trustee of the Quincy Orphanage and Home and a member of the Harrisburg Rotary Club.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Harrisburg; superintendent of the Sunday School for 25 years and a past teacher of the Young Men's Bible Class and trustee emeritus of the church.

He was also a member of the pension trust board for the former Evangelical United Brethren denomination for many years.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bitzer and a grandson, both of Camp Hill.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8 at 2 p.m. at Neumyer Funeral Home, Harrisburg, with the former Rev. Dr. Thomas S. May officiating, assisted by Rev. Peter Seiler Jr. and Rev. Joseph B. Smith Jr.

Interment followed in Paxtang Cemetery.
