Sister Alvin Marie Hagan, SSND, 74, of St. Mary of the Pines in Chatawa, died Oct., 10, 2007, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Shirley Josephine Hagan was born April 22, 1933, in Hannibal, Mo. She was the daughter of Alvin E. and Gertrude Buckman Hagan.

She attended elementary school in Hannibal and secondary school in St. Louis.

She entered the candidature of School Sisters of Notre Dame in St. Louis. On her reception into the community in 1952, she received the name Sister Alvin Marie. She pronounced her vows as a member of the congregation in 1953.

Sister Alvin Marie was on the service staff in School Sister of Notre Dame communities in Missouri and Illinois. She served in the care of children with special needs in Louisiana and in Missouri.

Sister Alvin Marie came to assist the staff at St. Mary of the Pines in 1977. She gave this service until her own health required her retirement. Even in retirement her talent for crafting decorative arrangements gave pleasure to many others.

Sister Alvin Marie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Survivors include her twin, Sister Gertrude Marie Hagan; and two brothers, James and Lawrence.
