Julia May Sweigert Carbaugh was born on January 26, 1902 in Morrison, Illinois. She was the daughter of George Edward Sweigert and Emma Jane Daywalt Sweigert. Shortly after her birth, the family moved back to the Maryland/Pennsylvania area where they farmed. Julia was a Mennonite. She had two half brothers from her father's previous marriage to Daisy Mummert. Daisy passed away at the age of 20. These half brothers were George and Luther Sweigert.Julia had 3 full brothers. They were Daywalt, Arbie and Charles Sweigert. Julia married Obern M. Carbaugh in Nov. 1927 in Harrisonburg, VA. Julia joined Obern as a member of Broadfording Church of the Brethren after their marriage. They resided on their farm at State Line, PA. Their first child, son Kenneth Obern Carbaugh, died at birth in August 1932. On October 30, 1934 their second child and son, Roy Edward Carbaugh was born. In 1936, Obern and Julia purchased a farm on the Clear Spring Road near Williamsport, MD. In 1940, Obern and Julia sold 100 acres of their farm and built a new home on the remaining 7 acres. Their third child, son Lloyd Eugene Carbaugh was born February 1, 1940. Roy married Patricia Sword Carbaugh on June 17, 1955. They have two daughters, Debra Lynn and Terry Ann. Lloyd married Judith Shiflett on June 14, 1958. They had two sons, Trent Lee and Drew Allen. Julia passed away on July 3, 1983 after having a massive stroke.
