Rollo was a postmaster who died of a ruptured appendix.

The News-Messenger (Fremont, Ohio), Tuesday, August 20, 1940, p. 2:
"Akron Postmaster Claimed By Death
Rollo C. Witwer, 53, Akron postmaster and sportsman, died Monday after an illness of less than a week. Active in the Postmasters association, Mr. Witwer was well-known in Fremont and other Sandusky towns.

The deceased became ill last Tuesday after returning from a baseball game in Cleveland, and Wednesday underwent an emergency appendectomy. He appeared to be improving when pneumonia developed.

A former councilman and active civic leader, Mr. Witwer was the Democratic candidate for mayor of Akron in 1935, but was defeated by Mayor Lee D. Schroy, Republican candidate. Shortly after the election he was named postmaster on recommendation of Congressman Dow W. Harter and three months ago was given a life-time appointment to the postmastership by President Roosevelt.

Surviving are the widow and one son. Services will be at 2:30 p. m. Thursday."
