Robert Edward Murray of Short Hills, New Jersey and Stuart, Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 11. He was 89 years old. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary O'Byrne Murray, sons Robert Murray, Jr., Gregory Murray, Dr. Richard Murray, Donald Murray and David Murray, and daughter Joanne Evans. In addition to his 6 children, he had 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Mr. Murray was married to his first wife Elizabeth Stanton Murray for 55 years until her death in 2002.

Mr. Murray was born and raised in Phildelphia, where he attended Northeast Catholic High School and graduated from La Salle University. He loved his country and proudly
served in the United States Armed Forces as a lieutenant in the Naval Air Corps during World War II.

For over twenty years Mr. Murray was employed by Thomas Edison Industries, West Orange, NJ. He was a consummate salesman of Edison products and ultimately led the company as its president. In 1974 Mr. Murray launched his own successful business enterprise, ETS, Inc., which acquired and operated a former Edison division. Until the time of his death he served as vice-president of the Charles Edison Fund and treasurer of the Edison Innovation Foundation, both non-profit organizations based in Newark, NJ dedicated to promoting careers in science and technology for gifted, minority and women students.

A talented musician and singer, Mr. Murray played an array of instruments including the trumpet, coronet and piano. He performed on a Philadelphia children's radio show at age 7 and professionally with The Bob Murray Orchestra. Throughout his life he wrote songs and entertained pianoside at home with friends, backed by bands at his children's weddings and on stage with amateur community performers. He loved tennis, golf, fishing and Notre Dame football. Most of all, however, he loved his family and will be remembered for his ever timely advice to "Do your best and have fun".
