SGT. JACK C. WALKER
Sergeant Jack C. Walker, 21, lost his life late Tuesday night, July 27th in the crash of a four-engine bomber near Albuquerque, New Mexico while on a routine training flight. Sgt. Walker was born in Richland, July 12, 1922, son of Stanley I. and Goldia L. Walker. He was graduated from the Richland high school in 1941 and for a short time worked at the Shakespeare Products Co., before enlisting. Joining the army air forces at Chanute Field, he was sent to the Packard Motor Company ing[sic] and from there to Muroc in Detroit for specialized train[sic] Calif., for further training.
Later he received instruction in gunnery at Tucson. Arizona before being stationed at Biggs Field, Texas for flight training as a gunner. Sgt. Walker had been in the army since May 1912 and was to have come home for a furlough about August 1st.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Goldia Walker, Richland, his father, Stanley I. Walker, Grand Rapids: two brothers, James, Ypsilanti; John, Richland, and a sister. Jane of Kalamazoo: a grandfather, George H. Walker of Grand Rapids and grandmother, Mrs. Harriett Hayward. Kalamazoo. Funeral service was conducted from the Richland Presbyterian Church Tuesday at 3:30 in the afternoon, the Rev. Carlton Brooks Miller of Battle Creek officiating.
