John was born in Kreiskrankenhous while his father was serving with the US Army and after returning to the United States the family settled in Columbus, GA.
Upon arriving in Vietnam John was assigned to the 2nd Platoon of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. The battalion was participating in Operation Swift in the Que Son Valley in the vicinity of Vinh Huy (3) and 12 kilometers southwest of Thang Bin, when the Marines encountered a large force of NVA soldiers in bunkers. John died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to the body from a hostile grenade during the fighting.
Tour of duty unknown.
John died 20 days prior to his 20th birthday.
Survived by his father, Granville P Call of Columbus, Georgia.
His mother was Eliza Kuhn Call and she died February 10, 1954.
