Married Ildia Anthony Mertell August 20, 1921 in Johnson County, Missouri.

Sister to Charles, Harry, Esther, Ira, Anna, Ernest, Bertha Jane.

Syble was a soft spoken, kind, gentle and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was stricken with tuberculosis in her mid thirties and after several years of treatment recovered and lived to be 89 years of age.

Obituary Kansas City Star, Kansas City, Missouri, November 7, 1992:
Syble E. Mertell, eighty-nine, of the Carmel Hills Living Center, Independence, died November 6, 1992 at the Medical Center of Independence. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Rockwood Baptist Church; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Newcomer's Noland Road Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church's memorial fund.

Mrs. Mertell was born in Holden, Missouri, and lived in this area most of her life. She was a member of the church (Rockwood Baptist). Her husband, Ildia A. Mertell, died in 1989.

Survivors include three sons, David I. Mertell, Independence; Troy A. Mertell, Wapato, Washington and Wayne R. Mertell, North Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Joyce E. Potts, Independence; and Treva L. Poe, Downing, Missouri; a sister, Jane Simmermon, Holden, Missouri; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
