A fractured skull was sustained by Charles Doolin, county highway worker, in a truck accident near Mehan Monday afternoon. Doolin died in Stillwater hospital at 6:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, never regaining consciousness.
Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the Vincent Funeral home, with the Rev. Virgil G. Nalley officiating. Burial was in Fairlawn cemetery.
Doolin was unmarried. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Doolin; four brothers and four sisters, who are Mrs. Emma Robinson, Stillwater; Mrs. Edna Brock, Stillwater; Mrs. Florence Andrew, Stillwater; anad Mrs. Ella White, Colorado; Wallace, Oilton; William, Colorado; Frank, California, and Lee, Stillwater.
The accident occurred on the circle turn near Mehan shortly after 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. A truckload of workmen, who had been busy Monday at the rockcrusher near Ingalls, and in doing road work near West Point, were returning to Stillwater when the truck, driven by Harry King, swerved off the highway to avoid another truck, and overturned.
In the truck were Doolin, King, Bill Sears, Hugh Hesser, John Black, Jim Kirby and Doc Bilyeu. The four last named and Doolin were riding in the rear of the truck. The party was driving west in rear of a truck in which Dale and Sam Patton, Jr., were riding. Without warning, the Patton truck turned south. King attempted to avoid hitting the truck by cutting into ditch along the highway, succeeding in avoiding a direct collision, but struck a rear wheel of the front truck.
The impact hurled the county truck into a ditch. The truck overturned when the driver attempted to bring it back on the paved highway. Doolin was hurled from the rear of the truck, striking the pavement on his head. Bilyeu also struck the pavement on his head, and is in Stillwater hospital with a minor skull fracture. ...
