Married Mary Margaret Loveall Sweaney April 2, 1892 in Miller County, Missouri. Child: Ildia.

Married Alice Barnhart Wallgren December 29, 1896 in Osage County Missouri. Child: Oliver.

Married Catherine O'Shaughnessy January 31, 1899 in St Louis, Missouri. Children: Charles, Mary, John, James, Frederic.

Martha died in childbirth with their sixth child.
Alice died in childbirth with their son Oliver.
Mary Margaret died when Ildia was five months old.

Albert Aubrey was known as A.A Mertel. The name was often mispronounced as Myrtle and Albert changed the spelling to Mertell.

Records reveal his occupations as a maker of railroad ties in mid Missouri; a teamster in southern Missouri; moving logs on the Osage river in mid Missouri; and as a farmer, having purchased the family farm in Osage County, Missouri south of Meta in 1895 from Marion Barnhart, the father of his wife, Alice. Later in life he and his fourth wife, Catherine moved to St Louis where he worked in a shoe factory. The farm was sold in 1933 for $5 an acre, a welcome amount during the Depression.

Albert's fourth wife, Catherine, was a devout Catholic and Albert and all his children were baptized at the St Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta, Missouri. In 1905 Albert and Catherine solemnized their marriage there, the first to do so at the new church.

Albert Mertel left last Sunday morning for his home in Meta, Mo., after a week's visit with his sister, Mrs. B. R. Collins and his father and brother, Henry and Fred Mertel.

Albert Mertell, a resident of this city for only a few years, passed away at his home, Wednesday, June 25, 1925 at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 27 days.
Mr. Mertell was born in Glasgow, Mo., June 28, 1853. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine Mertell, and children, namely Edgar of Springfield, Ildia of Independence, Oliver of Owensville, Charles, James and Fred of Union, John of Jefferson City, Mrs. Elsie Orr of Hartman, Colorado. Six children preceded him in death.
He is survived by two brothers, Frederich of Kansas City, Kansas, Charles of Springfield, Massachusetts, and one sister, Mrs. Cora Collins of Kansas City Kansas, and nineteen grandchildren.
Mr. Mertell was always an active member of the Catholic Church. Furneral services were held at the Immaculate Conception Church at this city, Friday morning, June 29. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Rev Father Theophilus officiated at the service.
The funeral was attended by a large number of relatives from a distance and a host of friends.

Albert A. Mertell, well known resident of this city for a number of years, passed away at his home Wednesday, June 25, 1928, at the age of seventy-four years, eleven months and twenty-seven days. Funeral services were held at the Immaculate Conception Church of this city, Friday morning, June 29. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Rev. Father Theophilus officiated at the services.
Mr. Mertell was born in Glasgow, Missouri, June 29, 1853. He was married to Miss Catherine Shaughnessy. His wife and children survive him.
