Obituary Memphis Reveille dated March 5, 1925:
Another Old Settler Called To His Reward.
Thomas B. Poe, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Poe was born in Fauquier County, Virginia, August 17, 1834 and passed away February 27, 1925 at his home in Memphis at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 16 days.
He was married June 20, 1862 to Addie Gatewood, at Moundsville, West Virginia. She preceded him in death forty-two years. Ten children were born to this union, all but four of whom preceded the father to the other world. Those surviving are: Mrs. V. D. Gunn of Grand Valley, Colorado; Mrs. Ella Scholl, of Milton, Iowa; Mrs. Katie Lenhart of Memphis; and Mrs. Grace Howland of Arkansas City, Kansas.
Father Poe was truly a Christian man, always ready to speak a word for his Master who he has gone to meet. Truly a good Christian father has gone to the God he has served long. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Hitt, conducted by Rev. E. C. Morgan, past of the Memphis Methodist Church. Buried in the Hitt cemetery.
