R.B. Phillips, age 72, died Monday, December 16, 1996 in Amarillo.

He was born to O.D. Phillips and Mattie Adams Phillips on May 24, 1924 in the Harrolds Chapel Community of Childress County. He attended school at Harrolds Chapel and graduated from Memphis High School in 1942.

He married Wands Posey November 1, 1942 in Estelline. He was a farmer and operated Phillips Irrigation Parts from 1972 to 1994.

He had served six years on the Memphis School Board as a director of the Hall County Farmers Home Administration, as a director of the Hall County Farm Bureau and was a former member of the Memphis I.O.O.F. Lodge. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was a past president of the Brotherhood Association.

He was preceded in death by a son Mark Phillips in 1968 and by 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Phillips of Memphis; two daughters: Dianne Sweatt of Memphis and Elaine Kistner of Walnut Creek, CA; three brothers: Cecil Phillips, Troy Phillips and Nig Phillips, all of Memphis; four sisters: Ava Dell Clark of Lakeview, Honeria Helm of Memphis, Corene Henderson of Kirkland and Faye Ellsberry of Farmers Branch, 4 grandsons and 2 great-grandsons.
