Obituary, Memphis Reveille:
Mary Mildred Murphy was born in Culpeper County, Virginia, December 22, 1830 and died at her home near Hitt, Missouri, on April 9, 1912, aged 83 years, 3 months and 18 days.
At the age of five years, deceased moved with her parents to Barber [Fauquier] County, West Virginia, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Absalom K. Murphy. To this union were born five children, four daughters and one son, the husband and three daughters having preceded her to the better world. Mrs. Murphy was converted and united with the Richland Baptist Church and lived the Christian life for over forty years.
Funeral services were held at Richland Church on Thursday, April 11, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. D. Gunter.
Note: This obituary states five children. Two other daughters have been listed by family genealogists.
An obituary for her daughter, Mary Alice, wife of James Craven, states she came with her parents to Scotland County in 1865 when the family located on the farm, where she lived most of her life.
