1st Lt Arnold, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, was Killed in Action while attacking Hill 222 during Operation Commando. Combat during Operation Commando was so fierce it destroyed the 47th, 64th & 65th Chinese Armies and devastated the 1st Cavalry so badly it was withdrawn to Japan for refitting. The operation was a UN Forces success by stablizing supply lines and the Jamestown Line. Arnold was awarded the Purple Heart & Combat Infantry Badge.
