Russell was born the son of the late Arthur Ernest and Elsie Erna Schreib Hardy. Mr. Hardy was the retired owner/operator of Hardy's Used Cars. Mr. Hardy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in Europe. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a graduate of Illinois University and a member of the Masonic Boone Lodge 9, Lebanon, Ind. Surviving are his wife, the former Lois Jean Starkey, whom he married July 1, 1950; one son, Gerald John Hardy and his wife, Wendy, of Newtown, Pa.; one daughter, Bonnie Morse Strout and her husband, Edward, of Cedar Park, Texas; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Deceased are his parents and one son, Thomas Arthur Hardy.
