John Thomas Gano, 77, longtime Texas lawyer, died this morning in a convalescent home after a long illness. Gano, who resided at 4909 Staples, was the grandson of Gen. R. M. Gano, who came to Texas in 1840.
He was born and reared in Dallas and practiced law in Dallas and Houston before coming to Fort Worth 30 years ago.
He received his law degree from the University of Texas in 1914. In 1964, he received an award from the State Bar of Texas for practicing law in the state for 50 years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, which his grandfather helped found. He was active in civic affairs and was a founder of the Fort Worth Genealogical Society. He was a pilot during World War I. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Gano of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. James Hopkins of Fort Worth and Mrs. James H. Russell of Denton, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Gause-Ware Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Dallas.
