Born the oldest of four children, Clara was the daughter of the late Arthur Edmund and Ollie Lee(Otis)Love. She grew up in the St. George area of Kankakee County. She married Stephen Alexander Girard, 3 Mar 1936. They had three children: Vernon S.,Vera Louise, and Philip A. Girard. In her later years she developed health problems and lived at Our Lady of Victory Nursing Home.
